To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live (SNL), NBC aimed to create a mobile app that would offer a dynamic and engaging video streaming experience. The goal was to make it fun and easy for SNL fans to browse and watch both recent and classic video clips from the show. The app needed to balance innovation with user-friendliness while reflecting the iconic and playful spirit of SNL.
As a UI/UX designer on the project, I collaborated closely with front-end developers and UI/UX team leaders. My primary responsibilities were designing a clean and intuitive interface and implementing user experience features that aligned with the app’s streaming-centric purpose.
The main challenge was to create an experience that catered to both new and long-time fans, offering easy access to a wide range of SNL content. The design needed to feel modern while celebrating the legacy of the show, all within a mobile format.
The mobile app successfully captured the essence of SNL, providing fans with an enjoyable and effortless way to browse iconic moments from the show’s history. Stakeholders praised the balance between modern design and nostalgic elements, and the app received positive feedback for its usability and visual appeal.
The project showcased the importance of blending modern UX practices with the distinctive personality of a beloved cultural institution. Collaborating with the NBC team highlighted how thoughtful design can enhance user engagement, especially in a content-rich environment.
