Overview:
The project aimed to revolutionize the video creation process by using AI to streamline content creation and enhance user experience. We wanted to empower users to easily create high-quality videos by providing AI-generated video scripts tailored to the information that users input. As a product designer at Animoto, I worked closely with the product manager, developer, and marketing team.
Project Scope:
- Develop a user-friendly interface for inputting ideal video information.
- Implement AI integration to generate video scripts based on user input.
- Easy to edit the generated video blocks composed of script content and related media assets.
Challenges:
- Balancing automation with user control: Make the user aware of AI video generator feature without interrupting their user journey. Ensuring they input accurate and relevant information about the video.
- Integrating the AI model seamlessly into the platform: Ensuring smooth communication between the user interface and the AI model to generate coherent video scripts.
- Creating a user-friendly interface for editing and customizing video blocks to meet individual user needs.
Approach:
- Research and Analysis: Conducted competitor analysis to understand existing solutions in the market and identify areas for improvement. Gathered insights from user feedback and industry trends.
- Design and Development: Collaborated with developers, product managers, and the marketing team to translate research findings into actionable design requirements. Developed prototypes to visualize the user flow and functionality of the AI Video Generator platform.
- Implementation: Integrated ChatGPT into the platform to enable real-time script generation based on user input. Designed and implemented the user interface for inputting video brief information, reviewing generated scripts, and editing video blocks.

Outcome:
We successfully launched the AI Video Generator platform with positive feedback from users. This feature improved efficiency and productivity in video creation by automating the script generation process. It enhanced user experience by providing intuitive editing tools for customizing video blocks to meet individual preferences and increased user engagement through a seamles video creation process.
Lessons Learned:
- Understanding Market Landscape: By analyzing competitors, I gained valuable insights into existing AI video creation products, features, and design trends within the market. This helped me understand customer expectations, industry standards, and emerging technologies, which influenced my design decisions.
- Collaboration is key: Working closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and marketers, was crucial for the success of the project.
- Continuous iteration: Regularly getting user feedback and iterating on the design based on insights and observations helped to refine the platform and enhance user satisfaction.
